Description sommaire

Plante épiphyte, lithophyte. Taille de 0 à 60 cm. Bractées apex obtus. Fleurs de 1 à 4, blanches. Eperon de 250 à 300 mm.

Commentaires

Principalement lithophyte sur les glacis granitiques, mais également sur le pourtour du mont Ibity, complexe "schisto-quartzo-calcaire". Très collectée pour être vendue au bord des routes. Sororius, "de sœur" en latin, exprime la proximité avec A. sesquipedale. L'analyse moléculaire révèle que ces deux espèces ont divergé il y a 7,5 millions d'années (Christoph Netz & Susanne S. Renner, Long-spurred Angraecum orchids and long-tongued sphingid moths on Madagascar: a time frame for Darwin's predicted Xanthopan/Angraecum coevolution.
